The First of Many Poems

My heart was trapped

In a cage

Of lost hope

And dead dreams.

It was a sturdy prison

With protection

And a stubborn view

Of the world beyond it.

But you

You came along

And pulled out a key

A key I didn’t know I needed

Until suddenly

It was the only thing I needed

You came

Unlocked me

And set my heart

Free.
